The Brief
Bass music has grown exponentially in the last few years, so much so that it felt appropriate to run a week long campaign across Radio 1 celebrating the genre. We pitched the idea to Radio 1 then after agreeing, the station asked us to lead the campaign.
The Solution
After liaising with all the different Radio 1 programme teams, both daytime and evening, to find out how they would each like to cover this campaign, we developed features and ideas that would work across the week's programmes. We put together a panel of judges from Radio 1's bass show presenters and launched the inaugural Skream & Benga Bass Awards, recognising luminaries from the scene. Each winner received an 'OBE' (Officer of the Bass Empire). The awards were filmed and recorded, and a special 2 hour show was broadcast in April 2013 honouring the winners, plus Mala put together that night's Essential Mix in recognition of his Lifetime Achievement Award.
